When smelting high carbon manganese iron or manganese silicon alloy in blast furnaces or electric furnaces, the obtained material is not pure manganese or manganese silicide, but manganese carbide. Therefore, the heat absorbed by the reaction is smaller than that reduced to metallic manganese or manganese silicide, which means that the reaction starts at a lower temperature. Therefore, high carbon manganese iron contains more carbon. 
Application field: Manganese carbide hydrolysis method is one of the preparation methods of manganese trioxide micro powder. A research has disclosed a method of producing manganous oxide with carbon manganese alloy, a one-step method of producing low selenium and high specific surface area manganous oxide with carbon manganese alloy, and a method of preparing Mn3O4 nano powder by manganese carbide hydrolysis oxidation. A method of preparing Mn3O4 micro powder by manganese carbide (transition metal carbide) hydrolysis oxidation method has been disclosed. Since it does not involve catalysts, acids, bases and other chemical reagents, it is obviously a truly green process compared with the preparation of Mn3O4 by electrolytic manganese powder suspension oxidation method.
